The future home of Europa Bistro

Buffalonians growing weary of the American way of life and eating shouldnt board the plane just yet. For a true taste of Europe, you can soon set your sights no farther than the dashing blue and white awning on Elmwood Avenue the future home of Europa Bistro. Owner Michael Pijanowski is putting the final touches on the inviting space, set to open in early October.

Pijanowski will bring to Buffalo what he calls Europes comfort foods the traditional food of those who live, work and play in cities across the continent. From perogis to blintzes, bigos to pot pies, the bistro will bring the distinct tastes of lands thousands of miles away to our own doorstep. And with a 10-person bar, itll have the beers and wines of the world to complement them.

The unique new restaurant fills another vacant storefront on a strip thats beginning to see progress once again, just down the row from the newly opened Lu Modern clothing store.

The bistros first patrons will likely find their dining experience to be as warm and colorful as their host, a writer and artist as well as chef. In his first restaurant endeavor, Pijanowski will play on many of his talents displaying his own and other local artwork while cooking up specialties in the spacious kitchen. The full experience of the space, set to the traditional tunes of Europe, will no doubt make Europa Bistro another distinct dining destination on the strip.

One of my massage clients who used to live in Toronto was just saying to me that he couldn't believe there was no Polish type deli on Elmwood. He said they were very popular (and good) in TO. He thought that type of thing would make a "killing" on Elmwood. And now, here it is! Just happened to talk briefly to Michael on the other day as he was painting. Best of luck to him! I hope the place soon proves to be too small! Excited about the wine/beer bar too.
I forgot...what's a bigos?

Good old fashioned European food is just what Elmwood needs :)
By the way a bigos is a stew with sauerkraut, cabbage, and meat.

In August while walking on Elmwood, we met Chef/Owner Michael Pijanowski as he was painting the storefront of 484 Elmwood Avenue. When asked what he was doing, he told us he was opening a restaurant called Bistro Europa, serving Eastern European food. Ever since we have been waiting for the place to open. Every day, walking by, driving by and finally Thanksgiving week the doors open. Friday after Thanksgiving we stop in for lunch. Walking into this once Subway shop, we find a beautifully transformed warm, cozy, welcoming place rich with color and fabulous music. We were greeted by Megan, a sweet young lady who was as happy to see us as we were to be there. We were seated, and poured wine which we had brought (no wine list yet) and given menus. So hard to choose when you want everything. We shared the Fondu for two, it was delicious. We also orderd Rindsrouladen, tender beef with bacon and saurkraut, excellent. As well as Cassoulet, a stew of beans with duck, sausage and pork. This dish I have had many times, for many years, in many places, and I must say hear at Europa it was wonderful. Rich smooth beans with tender sausage and pork and moist velvety luscious duck meat. The food is one of a kind here, and so is this little jem of a place with the music and ambiance. We can not wait to go back. Congratulations Michael, and thank you. You have a real winner!

I think Bistro Europa is amazing! The food is delicious, and I know everybody there. We've been waiting all summer for this once-subway to be transformed into a cozy European Restaurant! Congratulations to all of you!

Well I think that the food is great and I should know. The restaurant has changed a lot since this summer. The food is awesome!

I stopped in for lunch for the first time and had the chicken paprikash with liver dumplings, and it was absolutely delicious! I was the only one there for lunch, but the server (Megan?) said they're doing pretty good business in the evenings. They should: it's a beautiful, cozy place with delicious food.
