The reference wasn't an endorsement- I was just pointing out that the jerseys likely won't look like the link. The design was unsolicited, and the Sabres have already said they will not be using that. Besides, 9500 signatures in 3 years is hardly a ringing endorsement.

A few things.
1 - Let's wait for the official announcement before we get too uptight this may or not be the logo (though likely it is)
2 It may look really good on the jersey design
3 Print out the logo in the correct color (the pantone numbers are at the bootom of the "confidential" page - most monitors are making the yellow look very orange - it looks alot better in the real color

The Sabres, like many teams (and other business) fell prey to the "over-designed 90s," where it seemed like every logo/brand had to endure some sort of revamping. Speaking as someone who works in the visual arts, it's just sad that the original logo was let jettisoned. It had a charging buffalo (with legs!) and two crossed sabres, not to mention the funny little hash marks above and below the buffalo. That logo reminds me of Gilbert Perreault and the awesome early expansion years of the Sabres. The skill and character of those early Sabres teams fixed that logo as an icon and it should never have been replaced. That was the symbol they wore to their first trip to the Stanley Cup. This alleged new(er) one looks even MORE like a football team logo than the current one does. A sure sign that the marketing department for the team is either too big or has too little to do. Or full of people too young to appreciate the value of even a modicum of tradition.

As much as I dislike the current horny billygoat logo, I'll take the black, red and grey over this one. But my preference is to go back to the original crest and colors, with perhaps some very subtle updating. The Celsius Design proposals go too far, with a bison that looks more like a toy poodle than a charging buffalo.

Just do something with the original logo and maybe a gold jersey to go along with a white and *royal* blue sweater.

I actually do not mind the new jersey or icon it has grown on me since they instituted it.. Why do we need a change at all? Either go back to the old, or keep the new. It bothers me more that our home jersy isn't white anymore.. but yet we still hand out white palm palms at the game and our current third jersy is the worst! The sabres look like balloons. I like the logo. I believe it's a cross between a Buffalo and a Sabre.

Face it. From a marketing perspective, changing the jersey every few seasons is smart. It is a money generator. I think this is why the original design -- what most would agree is superior -- won't ever come back, save, perhaps for an alternate "throwback" third jersey.

Had the Sabres gone back to their originals they wouldn't be able to change away from it again. This design ensures that they can "update" the unis again at a later date.

One word describes this new logo/jersey UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!! This idea came from some young upstart that probably wasn't even out of diapers when the Sabres wore the tried and true blue and gold. It's bad enough that us hockey fans have had to endure the past 10 years of not being able to figure out which team is playing because the boobs heading the NHL decided that Red, Black and White were the most marketable colors so lets make every teams jersey look alike but now we might have to endure this wretched looking thing. Can I get a shout-out for the pre-96 logos?...it was so classic and cool...keep the B with a sword through it, but please Mr. Golisano, slap that old circle with swords and a buffalo crest right on the front of some blue, white and gold jerseys. I've checked out the new logo. I'm confident it won't fly - just a preliminary tip to see what direction the fans want to go in, based on feedback here and other blogs.

I support a return to the Blue and Gold - too many teams are going with combinations of red, black, and white. The Blue and Gold is much classier, but unless the team is planning on changing it's name to the Bisons, WE NEED a logo that actually has SABRES in it. Personally, I think it should include 3 Sabres - one for offense, one for defense, and one for goaltending - crossed so that the handles with guards are touching like brass knuckles. A 4th sabre could be added for coaching.

Once again the City of Buffalo has been let down. The Buffalo Sabres new logo is embarrassing. How many times to the people of Buffalo have to voice their opinion before someone listens. What makes the Sabres think this is any better than the deranged Buffalo head that was the last logo? Still no SABRES in the main logo!?!? The people in charge of the new logo should apologize to the city of Buffalo for letting everyone down...AGAIN! The Buffalo Sabres are a professional sports team, not a marketing experiment.

Okay, Mitch, so we should be thankful that it's not worse? Give me a break. All of western New York gets behind this team, and this is what we get? A banana with horns? The original was a classic, the update to black/red was contemporary, but tasteful, but this? There's no logic for it. I like the team, but I won't buy any gear, and I'm glad I have a lot from the previous two looks to hold me over!

I'm OK with any Jersey so long as the team performs as good or better than last year. If this team wins, NOBODY will complain about the jerseys in may and june. GUARANTEED!!! Have a great year guys!!

I hate the new logo, but I was ok with the colors... until I saw them on television. The new "blue & gold" looks like "black & mustard" unless you have high-def. What's the point in going back to the old 70's colors only to make the blue so dark it looks black and the gold looks dirty? In other words, we didn't get our vintage colors back. Fans, it may have looked like they were trying to please us by bringing back our old colors, but they didn't. And I'm not looking forward to seeing what they've done to poor Sabretooth... A baby-poo yellow Sabretooth just doesn't seem right.

i think the old jerseys as the alternate jersey is enough. I love the new jersey! but I can understand why some people would only want the old jersey. then just like the city of buffalo, we'll always be behind the times.
